Duties
The office is soliciting applications for a Legal Administrative Specialist position within the Criminal Division. If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing a variety of support functions to Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs). Typical work assignments will include:
Preparing pleadings, stipulations, motions, briefs, affidavits, and other legal documents.
Reviews administrative records and discovery production for privileged content and other content for redaction.
Prepares and organizes voluminous documentation and evidence for production as discovery and for use in trial.
Effectively organizes data and develops trial exhibits such as statistical charts, graphs, and timelines to be presented in court as corroborative evidence.
Provides automated litigation assistance to attorneys in trial preparation and courtroom presentations
Preparing such legal actions as indictments, criminal complaints, search warrants, judgments, answers, motions for extension of time, applications, notices, affidavits, summonses, grand jury subpoenas, rules to show cause, proofs of claim, and satisfaction of judgment.
The incumbent also provides specialized legal assistance with the USAO investigations conducted by a variety of federal law enforcement agencies and task forces.
Maintains evidence such as paper documents, PDF files, image files, audio files, video, files, bank records, forensic reports, and other file types. Provides automated litigation assistance to attorneys in trial preparation and courtroom presentations.
Manages discovery and evidence in electronic and hard copy formats, prepares for the use of it in each stage of litigation and may present the exhibits using trial presentation software in court.
May be assigned ancillary duties related to records management, Giglio procedures, supervised release violations, OCDETF reporting, and other tasks as needed
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications
GS-7: To be eligible at the GS-7 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience.
Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level performing the following types of duties: maintaining document review databases to perform quality control; preparing a variety of legal documents for office use; searching databases and electronic files for information.
Education: Successful completion of one (1) full year of progressively higher level graduate education (18 semester hours or the number of units your school uses to describe one graduate year of academic study) in related field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Law, Information Technology,) leading to a master's degree OR bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement. Superior academic achievement is as follows: standing in the upper third of your graduating class or major subdivision OR membership in one of the national scholastic honor Societies; OR Grade Point Average. Applicants must have a grade point average of: (a) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or (b) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B " or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum.
Combining Education and Experience: A combination of specialized experience as described above and graduate education described above which when combined equal 100% of the requirements. To calculate your percentage of education, first determine the total number of graduate semester hours. Then divide the total number of your graduate semester hours by 18. To calculate your percentage of qualifying experience, divide your total number of months of qualifying experience by 12. Now, add the two percentages together. The sum of the percentages must equal at least 100%. Transcripts are required.
GS-9: To be eligible at the GS-9 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience.
Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level performing the following types of duties: providing advice to legal staff on the use of legal automation requirements and systems capabilities; assisting attorneys in organizing case information for efficient retrieval through automated means such as scanning, indexing, and controlling of documents into a database; creates and maintains a variety of reports.
Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Computer Science, Law, Information Technology): a Master's Degree or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B. or J.D., if related); OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. Transcripts are required.
Combining Education and Experience: A combination of specialized experience as described above and graduate education described above which when combined equal 100% of the requirements. (Please note: Only education in excess of 1 full year is creditable).Transcripts are required
GS-11: To be eligible at the GS-11 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience.
Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level performing the following types of duties: providing a variety of legal work which demonstrates a practical knowledge of law, the litigation and judicial process; recommending automated support methods for trials; using automated resources and technology for the development, presentation, and litigation of federal cases; preparing discovery and digital exhibits for trial; assisting attorneys in reviewing and filing of motions, pleadings, subpoenas, legal briefs, and pre-trial documents; and knowledge of legal terminology.
Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Law, Information Technology): a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.M., if related. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. Transcripts are required.
Combining Education and Experience: A combination of specialized experience and education which when combined equal 100% of the requirements. Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 2 full years. Transcripts are required.
Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
